Arch Linux: Key Could Not Be Looked up Remotely

Posted on August 28, 2017

Yet another Arch Linux update that resulted into a keyring (KISS) problem. Here is how to deal with it...

Problem

Just a general system update:

$ yaourt -Syua
<OUTPUT OMITTED>
downloading required keys...
error: key "4A1AFC345EBE18F8" could not be looked up remotely
error: required key missing from keyring
error: failed to commit transaction (unexpected error)
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

Solution

The solution seems to be quite simple, i.e. to refresh the keyring database:

$ sudo pacman-key --refresh-keys

Now, it the installation of the previously downloaded packages went as expected:

$ yaourt -Sua

More info

As usually, a helping source of information is Arch Linux's forum.

Not sure why this simple command can't be configured to run at first when an update of core/archlinux-keyring is present. Maybe, it is because:

Arch Linux is a tough playground. Beware, behold and KISS!
